Do you guys always unplug the trailer lights when backing into water or is it okay to just leave it on? Will anything get damaged? Thanks again. |

You're supposed to be able to leave them plugged in. Many find out they blow bulbs no matter what they do which is the best reason to change all the lights to LED's. |

We always leave them on..... However, we have blown fuse for trailer lights (on factory fuse box) in my old truck few times before.... So far we have no problem with our new truck... |

With our old boat (trailer didn't have brakes) I would always unplug the lights. But since we got our new boat I haven't been unplugging the lights and so far I haven't had any problems. Plus if worse comes to worse our storage garage is about a half mile from the boat launch, so we don't have to far to go. |

Mine are LED lights - always leave it plugged in and never had a problem. |

Unplugged them the first year I had the boat. Stopped doing it because it was kind of a pain and have never had an issue in 5 years (just jinxed myself I'm sure). |

I used to never unplug the lights and never had a problem. Don't have to worry about that anymore though. |

My trailer is older and only has drum brakes so I don't need to worry about the solenoind. I always unplug the lights just as a bit of insurance about blowing a bulb. |

I've never unplugged my trailer lights on any of my boats. Carry a spare bulb if you're concerned about blowing a bulb. |

It really kind of depends on the specific trailer. Mine was blowing bulbs every 2nd or 3rd dunking, no mater what I did to prevent it. Other folks never give their stock lights a second thought and go for years without a blown bulb. |

Where is a good place to get LED lights for your trailer? |

I usually unplug, but its because I have to launch two trailers at the ramp with truck (tow jet skis behind boat) If you don't have LED lights on your trailer, your going to be replacing bulbs no matter what you do. Vibration going down the road is going to get them. |

I tried to always unplug the trailer lights when backing into water. It is not only because it has been recommended but the theory on unplugging the trailer electrical connector before you back into the water is to prevent a possibly hot light bulb from coming in contact with cold water and cracking the bulb glass. I would suggest that you should always unplug your trailer lights. |
