My poor truck. When I bought it new 13 years ago I had no intention of towing anything with it. I got the tow package only because it included parts that I think every vehicle ought to have (transmission cooler, bigger radiator, etc.). Little did I know that 8 years later I'd ask it to start towing a boat near the top of it's published capacity.
Now I've got twin boys, both fairly serious musicians, getting into their first year of high school - and marching band. And that means another "opportunity" to help out as a "band dad" - yep, by being on the equipment team and towing one of the band trailers. The band has a pair of 20' enclosed utility trailers weighing about 5,300# empty and about 6,700# loaded, and they have electric brakes. Since my truck isn't one of the new 1/2 tons with a 10,000# capacity with $800/month payments, I had to add a brake controller. I bought a Tekonsha P3 and am very impressed with it. One problem with the '97-'04 F150 body style is that
everything is rounded, inside and out, and there's just no good place to mount a controller on the dash.
As an amateur radio operator I have a mobile VHF/UHF transceiver mounted on the transmission hump on a self-made pedestal. I decided to just add a "wing" onto it for the controller. Works great!
Just thought I'd throw this out on the board in case anyone ever needs an idea for mounting stuff in their truck.
