Does anyone have a toolbox mounted on their trailer? I have all these "repair" things I keep tossing in the truck and would just rather keep them in a lockable toolbox on the trailer. I have yet to find a decent one that would mount on my Tongue (opposite my spare) due to the unique shape. I would cut and modify, but really I have not found any that are small enough to mount and sturdy.

Bottle jack, spare hub, lug nuts, lubes, some tools, etc is what I wan to keep in it.

In Oz, it's quitw popular to have toolboxes made from checker plate aluminum in your pickups. These are also used on various trailers, so a small version may be what you are after... Just come up with a design and get it fabricated locally.

That is what I need is a fabricated design. We call the "diamond plate" in the US.

Any ideas where to find a fabricator? Seems like such a small job, but would be perfect and sturdy for theft reasons.

I'd worry more about theft. Trailers getting screwed around with is bad enough. Now you're looking at adding something very likely to increase criminal interest in it. And if they can't get into it on site that'll just make it more likely for them to steal it. But I guess that entirely depends on where you're using/storing the trailer.

You are right Bill. I have thought about it, but what is in it is not irreplaceable and necessary in an emergency on the side of the road. My boat and trailer are in a garage, so at the ramp is my risk. I was putting a list of essentials together and with cheap tools, I won't have $100 of stuff. Now the toolbox might cost more!

I would probably contact a local trailer shop/Mfr or just a local welder. They can fab something up pretty cheap and easy.

I have also thought about addding a box to the trailer for the same type tools.

I haven't measured, but in my mind I pictured a toolbox sitting on top of the frame, two u-bolts through holes drilled in the bottom of the box that clamp it onto the frame.

I have more room at the front of my trailer since my boat is longer so I think I could fit a standard toolbox on there.

97 - That was exactly how I was thinking of mounting it. I keep looking at tool boxes at Northern Tool, Harbor, HD, Lowes and no one has a decent size and durable. All the diamond plate ones are too big.

My spare is mounted along the tongue and yes I have less space than yours. If I could get a custom bottom made for it, I could mount it opposite the spare which would work perfect. I was thinking last night it would need to have thicker sides and top as I can just see someone putting a foot on the top. Either that or a sticker that says "NOT A STEP" LOL

My bow is so high that I hadn't thought of the step issue.

Not sure if this would fit your trailer (it would on mine) and is a little pricey, but take a look at this one. Actually designed for an Eagle trailer. Page towards the bottom of the parts book.

Thats my thoughts, i just need the back side custom molded due to space on my tongue.

That is pricey!

Just a thought.... What about something like one of these

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... ngue-boxes

Bolt 2 brackets (L Chanel bolted to the bottom of the box and THRU bolted thru the trailer tongue) for a box? The (little) weight you are planning on having in the box I think it would be fine.

I'm not sure how deep you have to back your trailer in but the chance of everything getting wet and layin there rusting, would deter me from doing it.

Maybe get one of those tool bags at home depot or lowes. There are a bunch of sizes. Would make it easy to keep everything together and take in and out as needed.

Just a thought

SeaBoo - I have looked at those alot, but none of them will fit. I am going to have to go custom in order for it to fit where I want it and with the space I have available.

I want something permanent on the trailer so I never have to "remember" the tools. I am constantly looking around my garage when I leave thinking, need anything? Trying to make a small tool box location on the box with tools and parts and the same for the trailer.
