I got a new one but was wondering if I should do anything to it to make it last.

To add to that, aluminum that looks "bad" is actually good. That's the oxidized coating that protects it. It doesn't "rust" through like metal. If you wish to make it look new, acid wash it at a truck stop

Yes, just cinch the cable tie tight. At least that's all I did.

I used heavy duty cable ties from Home Depot. First I wrapped the brake line with padding made of on old computer mouse pad. Then I wrapped the cable tie around the the brake line three times with the last wrap going between the other two, and then around the axle. This keeps the brake line from ever bumping against the axle and is well supported.

I also just replaced both of the rear brake lights when I discovered that it was impossible to get the cheap clear water-proofing cover to fit back together correctly over the bulbs. I now have fully water proof LEDs and they are very bright.

Yeah the old fashioned rear lights required complete replacement of the entire assembly it seemed. I also have the LEDs now.

The largest cable ties I have are just slightly too short, so I guess I'll have to get some longer ones.
