Last night I was moving the boat to the trailer storage area. When I placed the TB in reverse the trailer would not move backwards. The connections where all together and lights where working. So tried pulling forwards some to make sure the Surge brakes hadn’t been triggered. But still nothing! I know the trailer brakes are locking cause when I go in reverse the Trailer tongue moves up some, didn’t push it too hard.
This is where it gets interesting…I turned the lights off on the TB and was then able to go in reverse???

What is going on here, bad connection, bad wiring in the trailer, or is the connection between the trailer and the car bad?

Sorry for the story but thought the more info would help answer it, Thanks for any insight.

Thanks for that link. I tried all of that and it still wouldn't go back until I turned the Lights off. I have the seven round to the flat five. So when I go into reverse the trailer brakes should be off.

Might seem like a stupid question, but do your reverse lights go on when your headlights are on? Worth a check. It sounds like you have a problem with your wiring or your 7 to 5 adapter. With the headlights on and the TB in reverse, you should have 12V running to pin 5 on your 5 pin connector. Likely you only have 12V when the headlights are not on. Probably a short with the running lights pin outs.

Do you mean when I put the TB in reverse are the head lights on? Well with it being dark outside the headlights are going to be on. Im thinking of just replacing the connector and going from there.

Is this the first time you've tried to back the trailer with your lights on? It almost sounds like you aren't getting enough current to the trailer's lockout solenoid when all the other lights are on. You turn them off, and then there's enough current to power the solenoid. I doubt it has anything to do with the connector. If you have a voltmeter, I'd check the voltage at the 7-round connector, between the backup pin and the ground pin (I think that's between the center pin and the 5 o'clock pin, but I'm not certain on that).

The lockout solenoid on our trailer malfunctioned toward the end of our first year of ownership and had to be replaced.

No It happened before when the lights where off. Just happened to turn the lights off this time and it worked. So I will try thoguh the volt reading and see if something isnt going on there. If I don't see something there Im taking it to the dealer this weekend.
Joys of owning a boat

No, I was asking if the back up lights on the TB are actually on when you have the headlights on and the trans in reverse. Trying to isolate the vehicle wiring. Come to think of it, if you do go to your dealer, and he says it's your TB, you could hook up to another trailer to see if you have the same problem. (This isolates the trailer, if it works on another trailer, something's up with your trailer wiring or solenoid, if it doesn't it's your vehicle or connector)

Just for reference on this board, and also in case it might come into play with this particular problem, here's more than you ever wanted to know about bypass-type lockout solenoids.

Thanks for all the Info!!

We aren't going out this weekend, too much to do around the house. Will try testing the volt and if that doesn't correct it, to try a new connector.

Thanks everyone 8)
