Post subject:  Safest way to exit a boat on a trailer?

My wife has now injured her ankle twice getting off the boat trailer. She turns around backwards and climbs down to the wheel well...
I can't really teach her the way I do it because my method is also dangerous, and I constantly worry about f'ing up my ankle as well...

My method is as follows:
1) I basically sit at the port side of the stern with my legs hanging off the boat
2) Right hand goes on the wakeboard tower
3) I drop my right foot to the wheel fender
4) swing down whilst rotating my right foot on the wheel fender (this is probably dangerous)

Anyone have a safer way of getting off the boat? lol (mine is an h200 w/tower)

The admiral will use the ladder off the swim platform. I use the step behind the trailer fender

My kids and wife use the ladder. I step behind then fender and then up onto the side guide bunk.

Option 1:
In the spirit of an Olympic Year, have your wife start taking gymnastics. A back flip off the back of the boat would be quite impressive.

Option 2:
If you don't have a boat ladder, you can always get a rope ladder that is used for fire escape on second story homes and cut it down. Clips onto sides like you would clip onto your window sill.

Option 3:
Put the Tube below the boat and tell her to jump. May go through a few more tubes per season this way though.

Option 4:
She's too clumsy and tell her she's banned from the boat. The get ready as the divorce papers will be served within 36 hours.

Don't forget you can always Pole-vault into it

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE THE SWIM LADDER. That ladder is designed only to exit and enter the boat while it's in the water. Failure to heed this warning will result in severe comfort and ease of access to your boat.

My wife trailers the boat while I drive the truck. Once she is ready to exit, she will either sit on the bow or the swim platform with her feet hanging over; since she only weighs about 125 pounds, she hops off while I grab her...I get to squeeze her rear end without getting slapped while helping her to the ground

I do have a swim ladder and have even used it on occasion. It just seems the fastest way to get in is to just climb up the wheel fender... problem is once your up, getting down the same way is more dangerous than using the ladder (although using the fender is easily 3-4 times as fast) not quite as fast as the backflip idea someone mentioned :-)

Also often times I'll be working on the boat and need to go back to the garage and get a tool. If your engine compartment is open, using the swim ladder in the back seems like a pain in the @#$...

Get one of those ladders you see on TV where you can have one side go down to driveway and the other will be shorter and fit into boat

I grab tower and swing down to fender....you only get one shot...failure means you drag your junk over the rub rail making the ankle sprain merely a diversion pain.
