I have a 1988 241 Liberator with a 460 King Cobra engine. Shopping for a stainless steel prop. Can anyone tell me the proper size and pitch for optimal performance?

Howdy,

Boy, I have not been on this forum for at least a couple of years!

When I had the 460 King Kobra installed in my 211 LIb, I had a 19p (cupped/repitched to 20) stainless prop on it.
I also had a 17p 15" prop for a spare. (it was a bit too low pitch to use regularly....and I still have both props)

With the 20p prop, I would go about 60 at 5000 RPM.

You need to determine what you're getting with your current prop.

Determine your current WOT (GPS)speed, RPM and drive ratio. (should be 1.43:1 if memory serves)

Your engine should be turning around 4800 (max) at WOT (I seem to remember 4400-4800 as recommended RPM for my 460 even though I ran it higher )

A 241 is bigger and heavier than a 211 so you might be able to use a 17 or a 20. but you cannot know until you have the above info.

Once you know, you can determine if you're propped correctly. Then you can use a prop slip calculator to make changes. http://www.go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm

Regards,

Rick
