Aaah fun stuff...

I had the boat inspected before I bought it 2 months ago and everything was ok with it.

While cleaning the teak inserts this afternoon, on a hunch, I checked the level and oh surprise, white-ish smelly residue on the dip stick...

It turns out the fluid is two years old. I'll change it and hope its just "normal contamination". I also opened the impeller housing cover and its all painted over from the 2008 rebuild...

I guess no boating tomorrow morning while I change fluid, impeller and probably engine oil and filter !

My slice of life for today... :)

Sorry to hear that.

I guess the next step would be to determine if all that milkyness occurred in the two months since the inspection, or in two years. In other words, did the inspector look at it?

Either way, it is too much, but if it was two years, then maybe you could finish out the season on fresh oil before having the seals repaired. If that all happened in two months, I would not use it again until repaired.

I found very little contamination while changing the fluid.

I'll take it out to the lake this next weekend and check the fluid again. I'm thinking some water might have passed by the shaft seal when I dragged the prop on the ramp a few weeks ago.

Maybe you just need a new gasket on the dip-stick plug? Just thinking that if that is where most of the milkyness was.
