As the title says, I am pretty sure I have a fray somewhere in my steering cable in my 87 libby. I had the local marine mechanic do the winterization on it as I just don't have the time with work right now. They confirmed my hunch and said it would be around $500 to replace the cable. Does this sound like a fair price? Is it something that I could do myself? I didn't think it would be anything too complicated just some weird angling and stretching possibly to get the cable where it goes. Please let me know if I am off base and should just pony up the money to the repair shop and save myself the headache.

Price out the cable and you will know what they are charging for install.

Lots of room on a Lib to work, I can't see the job being that difficult.
