Post subject: | Repair holes in gelcoat with gelcoat or epoxy? |
Last fall I purchased a 99 Vista 258 that had been kept in the water. I plan on trailering the boat this summer and would like to get rid of the bottom paint and leave a nice looking smooth bottom. I'm in the process of removing antifouling paint using Franmar Soy Strip. My process is to apply the stripper and let it work, use a putty knife to remove most of the paint, and follow up with a pressure washer rinse. After speaking with a soda blasting company, I learned of Interlux VC Underwater Epoxy and was told that it would provide a white very hard surface that would hold up well to trailering and could be bottom painted should I decide to slip the boat in future years. Anyway, today while pressure washing the transom I noticed that I had chipped away the gelcoat in several locations and exposed the fiberglass. My question is -- Do I now purchase a gelcoat repair kit to repair the dozen or so pencil eraser sized chips or just rely on the VC Epoxy assuming that is the finish I end up with? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. |
