Wet sanding

i removed the name on the boat, and where letters were is slightly raised . I used compound on the area but it didnt change . can you wet sand gel coat and buff it back . Ive done cars but never fiberglass or gel coat finishes.

sounds good. if it ever gets to around 60 while i'm not working i'm going to do the whole boat. it was sitting for 6 years so its got some oxidation.

checked out video thalasso posted. same as i do my cars

temp starting to warm up so i started on wet sanding on the boat . here is a couple of pics of what i have done so far

wet sanded with 1500 paper and buffed it with 3m rubbing compoud and a wool pad. still need to wax .was also thinking of doing one more pass with finess copound and a foam pad then wax. alot of work, could puss out and just wax

Looks great, I did the same with mine but I could never keep it that way for long so I wound up getting it painted 2 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Now I just buff the white topsides and wash n wax the red from the rub rail down.

That looks good Crossram. Mine is just as oxidized, if not more, than your was. I've got a high-speed with all the pads for cutting, buffing and polishing. Did you try that first or go straight to 1500 grit-wet?

id do another 3M fines pass and make sure it is perfect.. then 2 good coats of wax.. you could even go as far as a number 7 maguires oil then wax if you want that luster luster.

I may have to wet sand the top side (over cuddy) but, from rub rail to boot stripe I was able to use the Mcguires ultimate compound with a cutting pad, then went to a light cutting pad using the Mcguires UC again then finally a 3M polish with a polish pad.

Your post got me motivated to go ahead and do it. That boat has a mirror effect now

I never though that blue would show it's true color. It could still use more but boy, it is 138% better...approximately

I know what you are saying. I didnt think mine would come back that well either. you can see the depth of the color took a lot of time but it was worth it
