So you can see in these pictures that I've got this garbage on my gel coat that polishing/waxing will not remove:
I believe this has built up as a result of my laziness/negligence in not wiping the boat down as religiously as I did in previous seasons. I've basically just failed to wipe it down after use since the 2012 season ended. I used to use a vinegar/water mixture and wipe it down every time and NEVER had this so I know who is to blame. When you run your hand over the gelcoat you can't really feel this stuff (it doesn't feel rough or like build-up or anything). It does NOT appear to be oxidation and seems to be more like a very fine film of scum.
I've got a Rockford 10" electric polisher buffer that l believe spins at 3,200 RPMS. I used that with a foam pad to apply the Meguiar's No. 45 Polish and it didn't even threaten this stuff.
So now, how to get rid of it?
Do I need to go to a more aggressive product like 3M Finesse It or something like a fine cut cleaner? I can't imagine I'd need to wet sand this stuff out.
Do I need equipment that is faster than mine RPM-wise? I've never operated a high-speed polisher and that seems difficult to me but I'd be willing to give it a go with some pointers (other than "don't hold it in one place too long or you'll burn the gelcoat-I know that one already).
