Looking at buying a boat with 3 seacocks stuck in the open position. (AC, Generator, Waste dump).
I'm not particularly worried and plan to replace them with the winter service program. Opinions on living with this for the season?

Is the boat in the water?

Not the end of the world - attach a properly sized wooden plug to each seacock to plug it should an emergency occur. Not ideal, but functional. I would also ensure all hoses are double clamped and the clamps are tight. This would cause me to look for other items that might not have been maintained properly as a seized seacock indicates the previous owner didn't perform all of the regular maintenance (which operating a seacock regularly is a part of).

I agree with the post above. I was going to suggest if the boat was out of the water to try and saturate them from the inside and out with WD40. Ball valves are pretty simple and should not take too much to free.

Try PB Blaster or Kano Kroil. If all else fails I have heard that a 50/50 mix of auto trans fluid and acetone is a good penetrating oil. Be careful with the acetone though its flammable.

I just read up on PB blaster and will we purchasing a can or two during my next visit to the hardware store.

I also happen to have a large can of acetone and a few quarts of trannie fluid... I knew there was a reason I never get rid of anything!

Thanks for the tip, even know it was intended for the OP.

thanks for the replies guys. The boat will be stored on the hard and only in the water when we operate it.
The advice on a few plugs is a great idea.

Seems like the previous owner never operated the seacocks - they may free up with a good soak when on the work stand.

A lot of people use WD 40 but the regular WD is NOT a penetrating oil, it is a moisture displacement product. So as far as freeing up corrosion it does nothing. They may make a rust penetrant but I have never used it.
