95% sure it was like this when I bought the boat a few years ago but I'm getting it patched up this weekend. This is on the anchor locker lid, that flips up to allow access to the windlass on my V318. Call me anal, but even though you don't see it, I know its there!

Curious on what to use to prevent it. On my truck, I've got "door edge guards," thin rubber strips to prevent chipping if my kids open the door up into something. I'm thinking something similar, rubber or plastic guard to stick on it and prevent the chain from flicking up and chipping the gel again. I don't think the 3M Paint Protection Film would be strong enough..but you never know.

I can't see the pic you posted, but you could try edge guard from McMaster Carr. They have many sizes.
Unfortunately only in Black

There are several kinds of trim on this page, maybe one of them may work.

+1 Edge guard makes sense to me but it is suprisingly hard to find in white. Hopefully it stays in place if the chain bumps it again. Here it is in gloss white which would blend well with your gel coat

A bit of Spectrum Color and the Edge Guard fixed it right up. Now if anyone has a cure/fix it for the black discoloration/mold under the anchor locker/swim platform ladder lid that'd be great! If only they finished it in gelcoat...

I know exactly what your talking about with that mold under the lid. I wonder if cleaning it and spraying something like white Krylon fusion paint would be a good fix for something like that.

I know another few boats that have it as well. Do you want to be our guinea pig?

Not a problem...anything is better than that flat matte finish that mold sticks to and stains so easily. I used that Krylon Fusion on some old steel chairs and was impressed with it.

Wipe the mold with a rag soaked in Clorox. It will come right off
