I am planning on doing my spring cleaning this weekend an purchased some bildge cleaner. Any tricks tips on using it?

BE AWARE if you use Bilge Buddy or one of the other "slosh it about while running" cleaners it will VERY likely destroy your fume sensor. Personal experience, unfortunately.... and yet another item on the To Do list.

That said, they do work. That and get a collection of various shapes of bristle brushes. An oval toilet brush gets in a couple of places, the conical shaped one they have at West Marine gets in a couple of others. This is where a spare brush for your extension handle comes in handy, as the typical bilge filth is going to muck it up enough to discourage using it again topside. I brought along a power washer to do mine and, honestly, it didn't really help any more than just plain old elbow grease and brushes. That and there's always that nagging feeling the pressure of the power washer is going to dig into the surfaces... not good on a hull bottom from the inside... It did do a good job revitalizing the dingy-looking Flex-teek crap on the platform (had to get that dig in) so it wasn't a wasted effort dragging it all the way to the boat.

Shame FW doesn't use a better brand of synth teak.... :)

I need to clean my bilge a little. I think I will just use elbow grease and regular cleaners and a garden hose!

Thanks for the advice. I beleive I will not let it slosh and only clean with brushes etc. Thanks again.
