Post subject:  Black Marks on Gel Coat

My H180 is a year old and I tore it down yesterday for a complete cleaning inside and out.

I have found numerous marks on the outside and some inside where the gel coat has been marred in one way or another. For sure the areas around the bimini poles have rubbed and left black marks that I haven't been able to scrub off. Not necessarilty a scratch just ugly marring. Because of the locations you won't be able to get a buffer in there even if I had the gumption to use one.

Do you guys have any suggestions for getting these cleaned up?

Depends on what they are. I found out a trick from a body shop manager when I asked him about some scuff marks on a car that nothing I'd tried would even touch. He pulled out a can of DuPont 3812, put a little on a rag, and made one wipe across the scuff. It instantly disappeared. I immediately went to an auto paint shop and bought a gallon of it, and it's been one of the most useful solvents I've ever seen.

It's nasty stuff and I don't use it until I've exhausted everything else, but thought I'd pass it along. You'd definitely need to re-wax after using it.

I know that we shouldn't be touching our boats with household stuf  but I have had good luck with getting marks off with a magic eraser pad. It made pretty quick work of the cleaning.

Worth a try.
