I have an issue with a certain group of seagulls, this time of year, who like to eat there daily catch of Bunker on my forward deck, leaving behind dried blood and guts. I usually don't see the mess for a couple of days letting it really set in and hard to clean up. I tried Spray Nine, boat soap and bird pop remover from West Marine. Nothing seems to work well. The boat gets waxed at least three times a year. However most of the mess seems to wind up in the non skid, complicating things. I would appreciate any recommendations.

By non skid, I assume you mean the non-slip fiberglass tacky area. I don't know if this is recommended or not, but in this area, I always pull out the big guns: Soft Scrub bathroom chemical cleaner and a tough bristle brush followed by a good rinse. I've never noticed any problems from the harsh chemical and it works well.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was thinking. I will re-post afterwards.

I would think the only thing would work would be soaking for a while. Wet the deck and spray deck cleaner. leave for like 1/2 hour keeping it wet. then scrub with a deck brush.
Have you tried any deterrent? I see some use those helicopter thingys that slowly spin with the wind. They use owl decoys on our pilings. Not sure how effective they are. They can be a real pain. A couple years ago one guy had his boat on a mooring that got totally covered in droppings. Even a pressure washer wouldn't take it off.

Thanks for all the ideas. I went on another forum and someone suggested 1/4 cup dishwashing liquid and 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide. worked like a charm and did'nt appear to affect the wax.

Just to clarify, by dish washing liquid I should have stated Cascade, as for a machine.

Dilute hydrochloric acid.

Dilute versions often sold as patio cleaner. Don't waste your money

Full strength 33% or thereabouts available on Ebay cheaper than the diluted stuff !

Thanks for the input, Grahm-R. I'm not familiar with hydrochloric acid and its use. Do you just brush it on the affected area and rinse like any other cleaner? I go in on May 19 and want to be ready incase the seagulls visit me again. I found this product on Amazon-what do you think.
Hydrochloric Acid Pure - Strong - Muriatic Acid 20 BE 31%

Try one of these. They will move on to another boat.

Last year I had a lot more trouble with the birds for some reason; all my past solutions failed to discourage them (pennant flags, bird spiders etc). Then I saw this angry fake cat on the hull truth; I found it on Amazon. I tied down one on the bow and one on the stern and it worked great. No more birds!

expensive but worth it!

Thanks for the input LouC. Even if it dont work it will be a great conversation piece at the marina. Man, that is one mean looking cat. Scared the h--- out of me. I will get back to you later this spring after the seagulls leave. They must feed on the fish for a certain time of the late spring and then they disappear till the next year.

You want a good laugh? I stored them in the engine compartment in the fall and opened the boat up a few weeks ago to charge the batteries and thought WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!!! 2 Damn cats hiding in the boat!

Be very careful with it if using it at that strength; goggles, rubber gloves etc and if you splash any on your jeans, expect holes ! Even diluted forn to 10% it's quite nasty, requiring the same safety precautions.
