Will be winterizing my boat this week (1994 170 Freedom) and have a question. Over the winter, should I store my boat with the drive down or up? Or does it matter? I think I remember reading somewhere that it was better to leave the drive down but I could be mistaken. Any opinions?

It's easier on the drive shaft bellows if you leave it down.

If it's a Merc the book tells you to store DOWN. I always wondered why the dealers store them UP? I guess to sell parts & or service

i have seen people store them up and down and over time no one can ever prove to me down is better than up, and i have been in this business a long time. i have seen 15 year old bellows on boats that never have the drives stored down, and all OEM bellows only have a 1 year part warranty when installed by a dealer.
