I've seen a few references to metal care products that Meguiar's makes in some of the threads over the past few years. Not sure we've had a thread specific to what types of products you guys use on your brightwork, wakeboard tower, etc. I'd like to get mine shined up nicely before this season starts and then put a coat of 303 on it to protect it. Anyone have any suggestions? I've seen the Meguiar's stuff, but it is like $25. If I have to spend it I certainly would, but does anyone know of an equally effective product that costs a little less? Preferably something I can get at a store instead of ordering online? I've got BassPro and Cabela's here, but no West Marine or Boater's World. Thanks! |

I'm going to try some left over turtle wax chrome polish and let you know. I've had good luck with thier products overall. |

I've used Mothers on the bike and boat with great results. Most harley guys swear by it. |

Thanks guys. I've used Mothers stuff before, usually with decent results. Anywhere locally I can buy that, Mike? Their website dealer/store locator is not yet functional. Looks like maybe Ace Hardware carries it? Thanks. |

Go to your local motorcycle shop or Harley dealer. They will have the good stuff in stock. Mothers has a metal/chrome polish and also a cleaner that is in a paste format. I use the paste first and finsih with the polish on a microfiber cloth. |

I think Ace does carry Flitz, but I'm not 100% certain and I'm not sure I've ever seen it anywhere else locally. I've had my tube of it for so long now I don't remember where I got it. It's kind of a glorified chrome polish with a super fine abrasive in it (won't scratch). It might not be any better than any of the other products suggested, but it works well on my stainless bimini supports. |

Flitz. A tube will last quite a while. It's surprisingly easy to use and gives great results. It's also great for buffing the crazing off plastic headlight covers on cars. You just have to use a separate polishing ball, you can't use the same one for both metal and plastic. But for the boat you won't need the buffing ball. None of the surfaces are large enough for the ball to work all that well. That and the ball does tend to throw a little bit of material around. The last thing you need with all that white gelcoat.... |

Found a new product over at Home Depot for cleaning SS, it's called Power Pro Stainless Steel Magic. While it does come in an aerosol, the "Handi wipe" style product was recommended to me for cleaning SS appliances. These wipes are amazing on the fridge, they remove oils, clean and shine, but best of all make the SS fingerprint resistant somehow. I'm trying them on the boat's brightwork this season. |
