I've got some kind of overspray on my windshield that I can't get off with any kind of cleaner that I have. Is there a specific type of cleaner for this type of windshield that will get out spots? I'm not sure what the overspray is.

Maybe try a razor blade to scrape it off the surface?

Is the windshield plexiglass or glass? The spots have no edge to it. A razor blade skims right over it. Its like it was ecthed in.

If it's glass you could try using Barkeeper's Friend. It's a powder cleanser, somewhat like Comet scouring powder. But it's much, much less abrasive. It's often recommended on auto windshields to get road gunk and worn-in wiper tracks off the glass.

If it's plastic (plexi, acrylic, whatever just not glass) then you might consider using Novus plastic cleaner. I used mine on our E-80 chartplotter when the factory coating went bad (I got a navprotector for it after that). Worked great and got the surface incredibly clean without a lot of work. I didn't even need to step up to their scratch remover, just the cleaner.

Thanks, Bill, I'll give it a try.

Bill's thoughts are good. It's probably deposits from the minerals 9and other junk) in the lake water and/or "acid" rain.

The vinegar and water didn't help but the barkeepers worked really well. Thanks guys.

"Vinegar and Water".

Same thing I heard over at Phil Dill. Does that work at all? Just figured I would ask before I start squirting my boat down with that old foot smell.

It didn't help me. Someone suggested a razor blade and it did get some of it off but left something like a stain that I'm still working on getting off. It isn't as bad as it was.

The glass actually will get etched by abrasive dust and acid rain, if the stuff is left on there. I've used a glass polish on cars with my Porter Cable buffer, with some success, but it's hard to get into corners, along edges, etc. It's worth cleaning or at least wiping off your windshield before the stuff sits on there for very long.
