Post subject:  Cleaning Non-Skid Surfaces?

It is that time of year again when the boat gets pulled out of storage and cleaned up for the season. I purchased a 2001 FW 180 over the winter and this weekend I decided to give it a good cleaning before the season starts. Everything went well until I got to the non-skid surfaces that were pretty dirty. Does anyone have a good method for cleaning theses surfaces (bow and cockpit floors, swim platform,...). Thanks!

Darn good question. I was cleaning my boat yesterday as well and ran into the same problem. It's those darn pesky black marks. You know the ones, when someone jumped in your boat with their shoes on. I used a stiff bristle brush with regular boat soap to no avail. Any ideas would be great.

It's posts like this that make me question my decision to not order the optional swim platform mat. The swim platform non-skid is where most of the skid marks gather, I take it?

I like to use these products on the non skid surfaces. They really work:

Jim_R - If you find a good swim platform mat, it certainly is worth it, but I also find use for these products under the cockpit carpeting as you will notice that the carpet backing eventually discolors the non skid surface. I find that one a month or so, if I pull up the carpets and spray this stuff on as well as on the swim platform, and then just hose it off, the FG stays nice and white. To tell you the truth, I do not know why the cockpit and helm carpets have a black rubber backing in the 1st place. I would think that a white rubber backing like found on the Home Bath carpets would be a lot better for the white non skid cockpit liners. Oh Well! It's a good thing I enjoy cleaning the boat!

Oh, I really do have the "I can't wait for spring launch' disease!

As Mike so appropriately said in a different thread, "Tap, Tap, Tap!!!
