Has anyone experienced the top of their seats turning orange? I have a 2003 Funship 24' deck boat. It was in storage for 2 years, the canvas top was on as well as a plastic wrap. The stains are not cracked but a deep cololr or rust or orange. Could this be a problem with the vinyl :? or sun damage.?

Also does anyone know where to buy new seats is need be, they are all stained including the captains chairs.
How much should I expect to spend to replace them and do you know of a good source.

Thank you,

Judy P.S. mildew damae as well, what to use for that problem.

I have the exact same issue on my boat, and it looks like the pics that firecadet linked to.

Have not found a cure yet but the sun does seem to temporarily bleach it out.

Take care about using too strong a bleach solution. It can break down the plasticizers in the vinyl, which will make it brittle and cause cracking. Many cleaning products are too harsh on vinyl AND the threads used to join the panels, so be careful when using them. A strong lemon solution/paste and sunlight work wonders for cleaning up stains like that (which I thought I had notes on making but seem to have lost, sorry).

Also note some folks have had really bad problems with aerosol spray cans of sunblock causing orange stains on seats. I've never seen it so I have no idea if it compares to what you've got. I seem to recall the sunblock stains being next to impossible to remove. But I gather that's not the problem here?

Bill - what would you use to make the lemon paste?

Thx.

A little vinyl-spray and masking-tape does wonders too, as long as it's not too brittle. This is one of my 18-year old buckets that had that orangish tint on the rearward bottom panel I sprayed dark-grey.

Jimbo,

How has it held up? How long ago did you do it? I have the same interior and am experiencing the same issue on my bow cushion.

Thanks

Steve it's held-up fine so far. I did it in early-April. I've since done a few more panels and they have held-up fine. I used Dupli-Color in a rattle-can. Proper-preps the key to good adhesion. I used Acetone, sparingly.
