I just completed using my steam vac to attept to clean the snap in carpet. This is what I have done in the past. It is ok, but no matter how many cycles I do, I keep getting dark water returned. Sure it looks ok, but evidently there is still a significant amout of residual dirt, and it certainly doesn't exactly look new. Someone told me they used their power washer at a somewhat low setting to clean their carpet with very good results. They just put the carpet on an inclined driveway and made their way down with sequential passes. I wonder if any of you all have tried this and what results or problems you encountered. Isn't there some concern about damage and fraid ends?

We have used our power washer as well to clean our carpet. We use some household detergent and a scrub brush at first, then use a power washer to clean it out. We hang the carpet over a ladder in the driveway when its time to rinse and let dry.

+1 to Dallas. Scrub the main stains or dirty areas first, then simply power wash it in the driveway and hang over the gates to dry for a day or so.

Same here, but I stick with Woolite. I found it is the easiest cleaning product on the carpet and it doesn't leave as much residue as other products.

Same here. Woolite Oxy clean is a great product. We have a Windsor Professional cleaner we kept from our rental store and I would not use any other thing for carpets that is out right now.

+1 to the power washer. Used Oxi Clean on it and didn't have any damage/frayed ends.

i used woolite and a scrub brush woorked great. took the carpet off layed it on the drive way and scrubbed an rinsed. layed over the ladder and chair it didn't take long to dry in the sun.

Are you sure it's dirt? And not the backing material being pulled through the nap of the carpet? When the backing started to go on our carpet I noticed a bit of it would get pulled up by the vacuum. When using a pressure washer make sure you're not blasting the backing apart.

I don't think it does on a boat that old. Most boats that age have carpet glued to a plywood floor. My '97 has the carpet/wood floor. Newer models have a molded fiberglass sole (floor) which has carpet pieces that fit over with snaps to hold it in place.
