Just finished with my snap on covers. I had washed them with woolite in a large machine at the laundromat, allowed to dry (few weeks ago), then today laid out the covers on the driveway and sprayed the 303 fabric guard on using my lawn weed sprayer(cleaned 1st). It went on well and seemingly very evenly. Let them dry in the sun, and put them on the boat. Looks great, but I don't know if this was a good way to apply the stuff. Anyone else do it this way? Do you need just one coat so to speak? Is there any reason to use the "303 protectant" (instead of or before the "fabric guard") on these covers?

One other question. Should I attempt the same with the bimini top(launder and treat), or just spray the bimini with the fabric guard while the top is up and wiped clean? Any info or other recommendations/stories would be appreciated. :)

You did good. Use the Fabric Guard. I just did my cockpit cover today as well, will wait until later to do my bimini.

Two light coats are better than one heavy coat.

I just lay the covers out on the lawn, wipe off any "big stuff," and spray the heck out of them with the fabric guard. I do 2 or 3 coats - basically as much as I feel my wallet can stand. Same for the bimini. Don't put the 303 protectant (meant for vinyl) on the covers.

I just washed my bimini and bow cover with soapy water and gave them a quick scrub and used the 303 protectant and they came up great with no problems. I guess whatever rocks your boat seems to be the order of the day here!!

I have heard if you take your boat out for a ride once in awhile, some of the dust will blow off the bimini and canvas. :mrgreen:

Speaking of 303, I believe it was said that they went out of business a year or two ago. Did this turn out to be true?

If so, Mike do you know of a local place to buy it? I haven't shopped for it in a few years-got a bottle for a gift a few years back and still haven't used it all up.

Yes, they have a "High Tech Fabric Guard" that is specific to waterproof fabrics, it is recommended by Sunbrella whose fabric is used for lots of covers and biminis.

Right - "303 Aerospace Protectant" for vinyl (some use it for quick rubdowns on upper deck gel coat too). "303 Fabric Guard" for cockpit covers, bimini tops, etc. The Aerospace stuff looks like Armorall but it's a completely different product. It's recommended by several marine vinyl OEM's.

Do you remove the whole bimini to do this,and separate the material from the poles/apparatus? or just clean and then spray on the fabric guard while the top is mounted on the boat? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but it seems like a lot of work to take that all apart when one could just get on a ladder and spray it on while the bimini is in open postion on the boat. I guess some of the fabric guard will spray onto the windshield and the rest of the boat.

Great Info. My boat still has the 18 year-old factory cover, it's in great un-rotted shape but is no longer waterproof. Next on the list!!
