Post subject:  After a day on the lake, Vinegar????

I've heard it in the past that after pulling the boat out of the lake to spray it down with vinegar and wipe it clean is a good trick. Anyone use this method? Im looking for a simple way of getting it clean prior to leaving the boat ramp, so that I can simply put it back into the garage when done. My last boat required a full scrubbing and all, which is a lot of work each time. There has to be a quick solution (pardon the pun) to this, so Im not spending the entire summer washing my boat.

If anyone recommends the vinegar trick, would it be a 50/50 solution with water? What kind of vinegar, white or dark vinegar? Does vinegar eat the wax?

Thanks again in advance.

50/50 White Vinegar and water spray is traditionally used for easily removing hard water spots. Not so much for a boat cleaning. But it can be used that way if you want.
If there is no scum line on the boat, just hose it off and wipe dry with a towel.

Or if you are anal about your boat's shine/finish. Use this.

I use the 50/50 vinegar solution to wipe down every time I take the boat out (I'm a trailer boater). It does not "eat the wax" or strip it in any way that I can see. It is a good, cheap, way to keep hard water spots from building up. Yes, the Meguiar's stuff is great the vinegar costs a lot less. I only wax maybe twice a year and my finish and my wax hold up great using this method.

I knew a guy who used to use pledge furniture polish on his boat everytime we pulled it. I had never seen it done since, anyone ever heard of that or tried it?

I keep it on my boat all the time (I slip for the summer), not the best cleaner, but cheep, environmentally friendly, doesn't "bleach out" clothing if you get it on you, and best of all you can use it on anything (seats, hull, chrome, windows).

Yes, I have tried it several times, it does work. I found it even easier to use the Pledge wipes. It smells good too

Think the lemon fresh smell would keep the Sea Gulls from pooping on my boat all day? It might at least wash off easier... :)

That's funny, cuz I used lemon pledge on my Diesel Gen's and electrical switchgear cabinets for many years. As you would think, easier to keep clean and smelled great!
