New carpet time - any ideas in australia

the rubber coating on the underside of the clip in cockpit carpet had died. the carpet itself seems ok though. was wondering if i could paint something onto it or just replace it.

any ideas, especially from the aussies here ?

The spray on aerosol (rubber) works temporarily, but does also come off in time. Get new.

What is the spray-on option? My rubber backing got baked and is flaking off also. I'd be interested in a "short-term" fix for it....

Could also consider brushing Plasti-Dip onto it, but I wouldn't expect that to hold up long term either.

I plan when mine dies, to replace it with some marine carpet, with out the rubber backing. I thought that I would just add some press studs and use the old carpet for a pattern. I don't like the way the Four Winns carpet doesn't drain the water, hence the planned move to marine carpet.

My best guess is either order replacement carpets from the US (but the freight would eat you alive...) or go to a local marine or motor trimmer and see what they reckon. As Ardy says, use your old carpets for templates.

bugs - use a boat cover
water in the cockpit ? i've had a wave (once) wash over the windscreen of my sundowner once when a few k's offshore. even then there was minimal water inside, not really enough to even need to drain out. ( most of it hit my wife!!)....that was fun.... it was when jessica watson return from her round the world trip last year... big seas, lots of fun. i am now an expert four winns surfer

I live in FL and its our rainy season. Even with the cover on, dry? Maybe in 3 months.

Hi!
I had the same problem (Horizon 180-carpet was good, bottom rubber coming off) and was looking for a cheap fix and found one in either one of the Four Winns forums or another place. Anyways, got some waterproof silicone (GE Premium Waterpoof Window/Door/Attic - whatever type you get, make sure it says that it's flexible) cartridges (as opposed to the squeeze tubes 'cause it was cheaper). Covered a small section with a silicone bead, then used a putty knife to spread it over the rubber. You don't have to make it thick, just enough to cover the bottom. It took a while to do, and I think I used about 10 cartridges (about $3-4 each), but it seems to work well and I don't have to replace my carpets right now. I did this at the beginning of this summer, so I'm wondering how long it will last. When this goes, I'll replace the carpets.
