Just picked out a slip for out 235 Sundowner in St. Joe Michigan, and when talking to the service guy, he said DO NOT wax the bottom of the boat as it will do more harm than good. Just wax above the water line ?? He said wax will turn hull yellow and may actually speed up bottom fouling ? As I intend to take the boat out every other week or so and take it to "explore" other lakes I chose not to have them apply bottom paint, as I will wash the hull when we take it out. Was planning to put 2-3 coats of a good Marine wax on the hull as well as the top areas. Have been polishing out all of the oxidation and am beginning to get a nice shine. Do I wax ? and any favorite hull washes when we do take it out. |

Wax that contains carnauba (sp?) can yellow the hull. That's why "marine" waxes contain silicones instead. Use a UV-blocking marine wax like Maguire's Flagship or any of the 3M marine waxes. Use it at least once a year, and more is better. UV blocking is the most important thing. But - waxing below the water line at all is a waste of time IMO. It won't stay on long at all. |

I used 3M products with a cheap random orbital polisher from Menards to really get a pretty good shine out of an 18 year old boat. I'm going to pick up a Makita 9227 polisher and some Lake Country Polishing pads to really make it shine. I've used Meguiars Ultimate paste wax on my vehicles, can this be used on the boat since it is also an synthetic wax ? http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/p ... wax-paste/ |

I'm not familiar with that particular wax. Just be certain of two things - it contains no carnauba, and it specifically indicates that its UV blocking. UV will kill your boat faster than almost anything. (Same for the interior - keep a good layer of a UV blocking vinyl treatment on it, like 303 Aerospace Protectant. NOT Armorall!) Your boat looks great in that pic, just keep on taking a careful approach to the products & tools you use. If you go with a circular polisher, be VERY careful around edges & corners. |

Maguire's Flagship user here and have been more than thrilled with how well it holds up over the summer. I wax only the sides of the hull. Anything under the waterline is just a waste of time and product. Good luck with the new boat. |

I use the 3M marine waxes. One $10 bottle does my whole boat inside and out. I have no idea why I use it over other brands, but I know 3M is a good name and it says it's for boats. |

Wa3M s a proven marine product line and that's why I use their products. Not saying another brand isn't good just saying 3M is good. I use 3M vinyl conditioner/cleane and wax and have for years with no complaints. |
