Post subject:  OK for all those oil questions for I/Os and inboards...

Well finally I did another oil analysis on my old '88 with Blackstone Labs. I wanted to see if the Merc 25/40 oil was worth the extra price over straight weights that used to be the recommended oil for these engines. What I found out, was it is worth it and performed even better than the straight 40 Chevron Delo 400 I had been using before.
My first analysis was done back in 2011 and then, the SUS Vis @ 210 F for the Delo 40 was 67.0 which equates to the top of the 30 weight range, the cSt Vis @100 C was 12.16 which again is the upper limit of the 30 weight range.

The second one (now keep in mind I had a bad overheat 2 seasons ago in 2013) with the plain Merc 25/40 (not the syn blend version) was:
SUS Vis @ 210 F : 81.1
cSt Vis @ 100 C : 15.79
Both are at the upper end of the 40 weight range.
So the Merc oil definitely holds viscosity vs a straight weight and is for sure a better choice than any of the automotive grade multi vis oils.
TBN was 6.6
Znc was 960
Phosphorus was 814
These last 2 were the only measurements that were higher for the Delo 40, which had 1705 for Zn and 1418 for Phos but that was before the diesel oils were lowered in this regard.

Nice work, LouC.
What % of viscosity drop did you experience from a brand new sample to the tested sample?
Scan & post the analysis report, please!
