Anyone know of a direct replacement for Clarion CM1602s (100W, 4 ohm, dual cone)? Not looking to drill new screw holes or enlarge the speaker opening. As long as it gives decent sound, I'd be satisfied.

Thanks,

Rick

takes minutes to install polk DB's. The holes require drilling but no big deal.

Agree drilling is a breeze. Even a caveman can do it.
But for speakers, I will suggest These. They are worth the extra few $'s over the Polks' IMO.

How do they sound "off amp" (just headunit powering)? I know the even the DB651's sound like doo-doo until you have at least 50 amps RMS pumping through them. 100 is better.

I have not had them "amped" in our boat, just stock HU power. They still sounded better to me than un-amped Polk's. Better yet with an amp in a similar boat.
Either way, both brands are an excellent upgrade from that Crap-ion stuff.

Yeah...$200+ for 4 speakers is more than I need to spend. I now wear hearing aids (they told me I couldn't hear children or women...Perfect!) and it's for a boat...not the greatest environment for sound reproduction. Basically, I'm looking for something that's 1/2 that price that puts out a decent sound.

Yeah anything sounds better.. I know the DB's personally have almost no low end bass when off amp. Throw in a small amp and people will think you installed a subwoofer on the boat.

DB651 are $120 for 4.

I love my DB651's and so does everyone who has come aboard. I did amp them though, 400 in cabin and 300 for the pair in the rear...

I will probably need to get hearing aids next...

The best sounding 6.5" upgrade speaker from a Clarion, Sony, Fusion, Polk, Kenwood, or any other OEM 6.5" speakers is the JL Audio MX650's.

Sound great on radio power....add an amp and WOW.
