First project on the new boat.

With the '07 Horizon 200 FW moved the Stereo Head unit from the cockpit passenger side to the Helm station. Here you can see the radio just behind the steering wheel to the right.

Nice loaction for those cruising alone, but I found myself inundated by passenger requests to change Sirius music stations, adjust volume etc. I'm of the opinion that my attention is better spent on enjoying the day, and possibly operating the boat safely, so I decided that a stereo remote in an area accessible by the passengers was needed.

The passenger side of the cockpit shown below has nice fit and finish, but I couldn't find an area to surface mount the remote that I liked.

Image

I decided to mount the remote inside the glove box, where there is just enough space to the left of the built in ice box. I couldn't find a way to run wiring into this area without completely taking apart the console, so drilled a hole.

No turning back now!

Here's the wiring and an anchor block for mounting the mounting plate I fabricated out of star board.

Image

The mounting plate proved to be a challenge due to the curved 'roof' of the console box, and the setback needed for closing the console box door, as well as the space needed for lifting the lid of the ice box. I ended up with an L shape, open at the back. Here's a close up of the remote installed in the starboard mounting.

And here is the inside of the console box as it looks today.

Done! 8)

Nice work Jim and a great solution. My radio is in the same place and I would rather have controls elsewhere.

Nice job!! I went ahead and changed my football shaped transom remote with the new round remote. The old remote fit in a 2" hole and had to drill out a 3" hole for the new remote. Works Great!

Thats a good job. Wonder why they changed the set-up? I like the head unit on port and the remote at the helm.

I think they changed it for the MP3 pickup.

They could have had a MP3 jack, its just wire. They already had a remote over there.

Maybe they changed it for the console box cooler - it looks real nice in the brochures. Then again there's the whole mp3 jack and 'cuddy' addition at the helm. Likely they had to change all the stereo equipment positions again for the '08s with the move to Sony equipment.
