I am thinking of installing an NMEA 2000 system and was wondering if any of you had any experience with it. If so, how did you run your power connection? Is it worth the effort?

Yes it is worth it, BUT it depend on what you are trying to do.

I connected mine to the D.C. panel, to an open circuit. I did it over 2 years ago but I think I used a 10a fuse in the power cable & a 5amp in the D.C. panel. Easier to changer the one at the panel. Then I ran two wires to the helm to turn it off & on.

For me, I hooked up my VHF, GPS, AIS, fuel flow sensor & fishfinder. I wes much easier than dealing with the NMEA0183 wires.

On my new boat, I will be connecting the remotes to my deck though the NMEA2k backbone.
