Question for those of you who are knowledgeable... it looks like FW is moving to Sony as their supplier for the boat audio side of things in 2008?

Do you all think the move to Sony will be an improvement to the FW product, or was Clarion a better setup?

Thoughts?

I don't like either one. Not up or down just a side step. IMO

My understanding is that Sony Marine has gone way downhill in the last few years. Nowadays none of it is made by Sony, rather 'farmed out'. I heard from one former member here that installed 'Marine Grade' Sony speakers a year ago, and the cones already rotted - just from limited exposure to sun, and in a fresh water environment. I am pretty happy with the features and function of the Clarion head unit that came stock on my '07. I also purchased a Clarion amp to install as part of an upgrade soon. Having said that, the entry level Clarion marine speakers are ok at best.

The story I heard about the reason for the change was FW got a new president last year who was a Sony fanatic. He put the wheels in motion to change to Sony (which is a considerable undertaking considering the component selections, placement options, changes to wiring harnesses, connectors, etc.) then he died. Anyway, I didn't verify any of this but was impressed with the source of the info. The same source hinted that FW might switch back in '09.
