 Post subject: clarion swap

I lost a channel on my clarion xmd 3 and was told that the repair would cost almost as much as a new radio. I would like to replace it with the new clarion cmd 5 but I am afraid all the connections will not match up such as the remotes, serius connection and the power connection. Does anyone know if I can do this?

You can probably go to Clarion's site and download manuals of each, showing the inputs & outputs.

I'd open the case on that XMD3 and take a look. Could be you just blew a fuse.

As far as upgrading goes, yes Clarion does have the manuals online, and does list the p/n's for compatible accesories. Here's the link to the 2007 marine product line showing accessories compatible with the CMD5:

second the opening up and checking fuses, we used to call that a vif circut at a shop I worked at in a past life. - very important fuse.....
