Thanks cityboy. That is quite surprising actually I never thought Bose would be involved in the marine world.

Polk also has marine speakers that are extremely well thought of by lots of folks.

Walter,

If you put Bose speakers in your boat I am not talking to you any more!

From someone who had a big honkin audio system in the last boat and many years experiance with automotive and home audio.. For the boat, go with Polk Audio's Momo line. They are true waterproof construction and didn't sacrifice sound quality for the marine rating. But also be warned, they love large amounts of clean power. I ran two sets of Momo 6.5" coax's and two Momo 10 subs off a Kicker 700.5 amp (946 watts RMS) it was pretty phenominal, the head unit also had lots to do with it (Pioneer Premeir) I miss that stereo.. The Clarion is pretty laughable, but at least it's not as bad as Kenwood stuff!

I added a pair of Polk Momo 6.5 to the stock Sony head unit today replacing the stock junk Sony. WOW! What an incredible upgrade. I need to get 4 more and an amp to make them shine. ABC Warehouse sold me the pair for $80 plus tax. When I first got the boat I put an older pair of Kenwood 6.5 in the rear and was pleased, but now with the Polks, I need to upgrade these too!

+1 for polk db series and momos both perform top notch

Bose is a love/hate thing - most of their stuff is over-hyped and over-marketed and a lot of it is just crap. On the other hand, I'm in the process right now of re-foaming a set of walnut 901's and rebuilding the equalizer, after owning them for 24 years. They're worth the effort and then some.

Having said all that, there are at least a couple of choices that would be far up the list over Bose for marine speakers IMO. JL and Polk among them.

For the price you would think they are hand made in south of France by monks.

I always thought they were, until I found out that French monks (who aren't allowed to speak) are also not allowed to hear.

I found a retailer that doesn't stock much. They had my sub dropped shipped to me from TX. The price shipped was less than a used one sold on ebay for.
