1993 210 Horizon Receiver/Deck Replacement

I've been wanting to replace the radio deck on our boat for a while now. It's still the original AM/FM/cassette deck that came with the boat, and I'd like to upgrade to something we can hook up to an iPhone via Bluetooth and/or AUX-in. The original speakers should still be fine for our intentions.

I figured it would be as simple as getting a more modern single-DIN receiver and swapping it in but when I removed the old unit it turns out it's the old shaft-style and it seems like the whole dash cover/bezel needs to be replaced. Anyone familiar enough with this ~1993 era dash to have a simple solution, or do I need to fabricate a custom bezel or something to screw into those four holes at the corners?

Not sure if your situation is the same as mine.... A few years ago I did the same on my '84. My receiver was dual post, mounted via a teak panel screwed into a side panel on the passenger side of the boat. @raquettelaker2 you will remove the 4 screws on the black surround. then pull the entire unit out. their will be a wiring harness that you can un plug. Next their is a metal rectangle CAGE that holds the unit into the mounting black plate. on the sides their is a locking tab on the left and right sides, you will use a flat head to lift them and then the unit will slide out the front side.

Now ANY single din radio will work. The question you have to ask is do you want a water proof outer door like i have in my boat and most boats or d you want to buy a waterproof unit itself. a standard car single din will work just fine with a water proof face door. Next is do you want to be able to add amps later, add a wired remote for the transom? If so i would go with a Kenwood Head Unit. The Kenwood KMRD765BT https://www.amazon.com/kenwood-KMRD765BT-Marine-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B019FEW4XC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493407488&sr=8-1&keywords=kenwood+kmrd765bt+marine+cd+receiver+with+bluetooth is a marine receiver with RCA outs that are 4v for plenty of power to the 3 RCA outs for amps in the future, Blue tooth and all of the modern features one could want. it is $129 and that is a good price for what all you are getting. It will accept a transom remote also.

As for the black dash component you can reuse the one you have or replace with a cover this is up to you as this is a water proof unit.

Same dash here and replacement with single DIN unit is simple, I'd also replace the original speakers if you have them.

I was looking at this unit from Sony to replace my Pioneer as it has built in amp and sub out put.

Thanks for the replies. The dark grey plastic dash insert is actually very specific to a dual-shaft radio. It doesn't have a cage that it mounts into like a typical DIN radio. The insert returns into the dash a couple inches and then has two holes for the shafts to pass through, which are threaded, and then a nut goes down over each shaft to clamp them into the dash. Then all the plastic knobs and fascia snap on over them. I've never seen anything like it, and am kicking myself for not taking a photo (the boat is five hours away from me right now). The insert is one big old injection-mold of plastic, with a sliding door on it, so I think I'd have to butcher it up pretty nicely to be able to slide a single-DIN radio unit into it.

I guess I'll just replace the whole deal with one of those new enclosures with the door and then slip a new DIN unit in. Thanks for the recommendations!

and replace with one of these in black or white your choice. then you remove the dual post plates. Insert the new backet slot that comes with the new stereo (stereo removed) and you flip up the triangle keeper lock tabs. This will secure the basket to the waterproof face. Now you can mount the new face with the screws. After that slide in the new Head unit and attatch wires accordingly.

I am an experienced professional mobile installer, I would cut the "3 hole" face out of the dash with an air body saw or more likely these days with a multitool outfitted with a saw tip, I'd cut it so a standard DIN would fit nicely, then underneath the dash, look for mounting points for flatstrap/backstrap you could use to secure the rear of the unit
