Thanks for the info! Curious how you'd wire three pairs of speakers along with a sub on a 6 channel amp?

Basically, we would make it run as a 5 chnl. Two chnls wired to the woofer as one chnls. Bow/front pair on 2 chnls, mid/aft port side pair on one chnl and mid/aft STBD pair on remaining chnl. Wired in stereo and the ability to fade front to back. Woofer can get its signal from the front input or direct from a sub output if the head unit has one.

Forgive my crude drawing, but is this how you'd wire it? Is there any issue with running some channels at a 4ohm load and others at 2ohm?

This assumes 6 speakers that are each 4ohm and a subwoofer that is 2ohm.

No issue on MOST amps running a mixed load among the chnls. However, a regulated amp like the JL HD series, needs a symmetrical load across the fill range chnls. In the couple of amps mentioned here, and most others, no issue running 4 ohm on a couple chnls and 2 ohm on the others. Main thing is to be at or above the minimum impedance.

For the most part, you diag is an accurate depiction. Just note though, if we are using a 5 chnl in 5 chnl mode, you would almost ALWAYS need to go with a 4 ohm woofer in order to bridge 2 chnls. Most amps will not handle less than 4 ohm bridged. A couple will, but not many. So mind that. If its a true 5 chnl like the Kicker KXMA800.5 or a Rockford Fosgate M700.5, then the chnl 5 is a dedicated woofer chnl thats, no bridging needed.

The first two brands that came to mind that I new offered a 4 and a 4 in the same series, so to keep it apples to apples, was Wet Sounds and JL.

Wet sounds HTX-4 and HTX06
JL M400.4 and M600.6

The other advantage of going with a 6 chnl or a 5 chnl, is the ability to come in later and add a sub woofer without installing another amp and more power cabling. Simply wire the speaker leads from the woofer to amp. A little more investment upfront, but you save it on the back end.

I keep going back to wanting the m400.4, have you used one? Feedback is appreciated!

The JL M400.4 is a solid amp, great performer.

No issue with the rockford marine amps, besides they still offer some class-A/B amps within their marine offerings, where most everyone else switched to class-D. I cant tell you how long its been since I installed a class-A/B. When number of chnls, price and wattage are comparable, the more efficient amp wins every time.
