I am very interested to see how this sounds. When do you plan to tackle your project? Also, what is the inside mounting depth of that speaker box? I have thought long and hard about building my own but may chicken out and get the factory box. I'm just worried that it doesn't have enough volume in the box to get good sound.

You can use car amps. THe Kicker that Four Winns uses is not marine rated. MX is the marine - ZX is the car version I think? (someone correct me if I am wrong).

My 318 has the Kicker Amp and 4 Sony 1620 speakers w/ the Sony sub.

I'm curious to see how it sounds -- I may be looking at another stereo project!

I really want to add 1 or maybe even 2 Kicker subs and even use those factory FW boxes, but they have about half the needed airspace volume...thats my concern.

I guess I am using the factory set up as I'm not after some booming system. I just want a little more bass and something that sounds crisp and clear.

Agreed with above. In reallity, I bought the options to make the exhaust loud, not as much the music. I'm not much of a stereo person, but I like having clear music when on the water. The factory amp and sub that came with my set up do an amazing job from my point of view. It even holds its own when rafted up among others. Maybe if I just played less "Milli-Vinilli"

I am hoping to get this in next month some time. Waiting to get the rest of the stuff I need for the install and a weekend a little warmer in the garage. One more question for the guys who have already installed there amps. How did you run the pseaker wires to the factory speakers? Is it easier to tap into them from behind the deck or to run all new wires to each speaker from the amp? Any pics would be awesome. Thanks.

That's where I am as well. I'm sure it can be improved on, but the $1K+ price tag isn't worth it to me, and I'm somewhat serious about music. I do have one speaker starting to drop out, and I may end up replacing all of them just to eliminate that problem and maybe get a tweak of an improvement out of it. But that's it for me.

It's about 4.5 hrs from Tulsa to Dallas. Probably a little faster if you're not towing a boat

Run all new. It's not that tough to do and it makes it super clean.

16 guage speaker wire is dirt cheap.

I found this guys to be awesome... I ordered my fuse breakers, power wire, speaker wire, and stinger marine RCA's through them. Pricing was better than anywhere else even though I had to pay a bit of shipping. Plus - no sales tax.

You don't care about "authorized dealer" stuff for things like wiring. I'd be a bit more cautious about buying speakers and amps from them if they are not an "authorized dealer". Although - it only becomes an issue when you have a warranty issue.

The stock speakers wires are actually pretty decent. Just cut them in to the wiring at the deck.
Make sure to leave enough length on the deck side of the cut to re-connect them later for re-resale w/o the upgrades.

I keep 16/2 in 1000 ft quantities on hand for my audio business. Just didn't see the need to replace the stock stuff that was 16 gauge with the spade connectors already crimped on.

Looked at the back of the deck and can't tell which wires are the speaker wires? What color are they? I have installed a lot of stereos before and have never seen so many wires going to the deck.
