Well, I came across a REALLY good deal on some Kicker Subs and some Rockford Amps - like a no brainer deal. I bought them, all the while thinking it would be VERY hard to get this stuff in my boat, where I need it. Couple things working against me were the fact that 12" Kicker Solobaric subs need a good size amount of air space and a lot of power. No problem on the power because I got some monster Rockford Amps. The problem here is that Rockford amps are pretty power hungry too. It just didnt look like this was going to work in this boat. No problem though...Worst case, I can sell or trade it off for what I need right?

Thats exactly what I did. I went to a local stereo shop (on the recomendation of a friend that they have good prices on good stuff). I spoke for quite a while with the owner. We went through quite a few options and I had some stuff for him to consider trading in if he would go for that. He says, screw it - go grab your boat and your stuff, lets figure this out. So, a trek back to the house on Thursday afternoon to retrieve the boat. I brought it down, we made a deal and it was done on Saturday afternoon.

In the end, I got:

2 - JL Audio 10W3 at 2 ohm - in custom made boxes - down firing. They are .63 cuft. Spec is .65
1 - Treo Engineering RSX 1500 amp - wired to subs, running at 1 ohm
1 - Treo Engineering RSX 2200 amp - wired to 4 (now a total of 8 Polk)existing Sony speakers (updated to a Treo RSX4400 and ALL Polk speakers)
Everything installed

First, here is a BEFORE picture of where one of the sub boxes is now.

One thing of note. I have been away from the mobile audio scene for a LONG time...like 10-12 years long time. I have NEVER heard of "Treo". Still, the owner swears these are VERY efficient amps and said he would swap them at FULL price for anything else I want if I wasnt happy. So, with that in mind, I went for it. Only thing missing (but on order) is the bass control knob. The stereo sounds pretty damn good to me. The Sony speakers MUST be upgraded soon though. They told me he has the amp for the subs turned down because the Sony speakers just can handle anymore power. Meaning, with an upgrade of those speakers, things could be improved upon greatly. I am going to play it as it is for a while and probably go with the JL upgrades for those at some point. The same vents on each side of the sub box was cut into the front of the bench seat support to vent some of the bass out.

TWIN 10W3's? holy smokes.

You absolutely need to upgrade the Sony's.

That's a great foundation there.

Any history/info on the Treo amps? It's the first I've heard of them as well. With the guarantee you got from your shop - they will most likely be fantastic - I don't think they'd throw that guarantee around.

4 7.7 JL components would compliment that setup very nice!

Well... http://www.treoonline.com - but the problem is this is a new series of amps (RSX Series) and I cant find data online. Yes, the 7.7's are exactly what I need. 2 pairs of those cost about the same as my entire system so far....(well, what I paid for them).

Thats a clean looking set-up. How much power are those amps drawing though? Good thing you put in another battery already.

I'll just look for the ripples in the water when I'm looking for you this summer. Nice job!

Thats my desired effect....we will see.

One "flaw" in this install (even though they did an awesome job on the boxes) is that I am going to have to remove the handles from my cooler. No big deal though, really.

Update on this:

1. Nope - didnt have to remove the cooler handles...they still fit
2. I have cranked the hell out of it for a couple hours straight with virutally no ill effect on the battery. Also, these amps barely even get warm. I am EXTREMELY pleased with the sound, the install and the fact that these little amps are SO efficient. Leftlane can verify this...

Well, today I update with some more info and pics. I ordered the Polk DB651's since $50.00/pair was such a smoking deal. I received them last night and put them in this morning.

Here are some pics:
