Does anyone have a good recommendation for replacement 6.5" speakers? I've seen MB Quarts Reference Series referred to on here. Anyone else have a recommendation? I'm a trailer boater and I store indoors, so I don't think a true "marine" speaker is really necessary. Also don't care too much if they are white, but it would be nice to find something in white if possible. I'd like to replace my factory speakers with something easy that doesn't require any more cutting than I already have to do for my 10" sub install. Amp will be running 75 watts RMS. I'd like to keep it as far under $150 as possible. Thanks. |

For the budget minded, non anal audiofile..... I would recommend: 1.) Infinity Kappa 602M's --------or----------- 2.) Polk DB650's |

Without question - my new favorite, budget alternative is the new Kicker KM series. If you don't mind the silver color, these are rockstar 6.5 inch speakers if you put a decent little amp with them. Tough to find since they are new for 09. I had a chance to hear these, and I like them more than any other sub $150 speaker out there (including the Polk) http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-09-KM6200-MA ... dZViewItem ![]() From the Kicker website: http://www.kicker.com/km_coaxials |

There are also the WetSounds -- but I think they are priced higher than $150... If they within you range - those are considered a step up from the Polk/Infinity/Kicker (budget line). |

Kicker makes some good stuff that's very reasonable. I'd stick with those for the budget. They will probably be more responsive to the power you plan to feed them than the more expensive wetsounds too. |

Have any of you heard of ARC Audio. A buddy of mine has a 28' Lavycraft with (8) 6.5's and (2) 10" sub enclosures, powered with (2) 4 channel amps, all ARC Audio. I stopped by the shop today for a sound check and I have to say, very impressive! I'm thinking: 3 sets of 6.5 @ $120...$360 2 10" subs @ $180...$360 2 4 channel amps @ $300...$600 Misc cables, wires, and such $130 ...$1450.00 total. I'd like to hear any comments you have either way. I was convinced on JL Audio by now I have been swayed a bit. |

I have MB Quarts and love them for the money!!! I bought 2 pair of 6.5" MB Quart fka116 2-way and 1 pair of 5.25" fka113 all running off a MB Quart head unit and they sound great!! I am also running 2-8" 100watt bazooka tubes. All of the speakers only cost $600 from onlinecarstereo The whole set up sounds amazing for the money and with the amps built in the subs it only took about 2 hours to install everything!! I have u-shaped seating and was able to install one sub behind the cooler and one behind the storage behind the driver. Plus onlinecarstereo said that the two subs together use less amps then one separate amp . I am very happy with what i have. Thanks DREW |

I 2nd the MBQ speakers and 3rd the Polk Dbs. I'm the guy that runs the Reference MBQ's. The one thing I don't like about them is that their external crossovers are HUGE and a PITA to install in a cramped boat. The copper crossover coil will likely rust over time due to moisture no matter how protected they are under the dash. However, I do like the tweeter protection found on some of the MBQ speakers. As you overpower or clip the tweeter it will bleed excess power to a bulb which lights up. German Engineering man! What I like about the Polk DBs is that the crossovers are small and more weather resistant. Some like the silk dome tweeters versus titanium too as they are less harsh/bright. Polk DB cones are more weather resistant than MBQ on their non marine line. If I were buying new speakers, I might just go with Polk instead. You said you would consider non marine speakers too so here's a couple deals to check out: http://cgi.ebay.com/PHEONIX-GOLD-RSD65CS-6-5-Component-Speakers-FREE-SHIP_W0QQitemZ120391688975QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Speakers?hash=item120391688975&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A2|294%3A50 http://www.buy.com/prod/pion-6-1-2-component-spkr-pkg-250w-max/q/loc/111/207470213.html |

My audio guy is doing all he can to sell me some Kickers for my bow and cockpit. He hasnt led me wrong yet, so I may go that route. I am not sure of the model of them, but they do have those grey grills, which I am not a fan of. If I dont go that route, I am going JL Audio for sure. |

For under 100 a pair I would look into MTX, or Fusion Audio... MTX has been doing better year after year, and a lot of the engineers from Old Rockford Fosgate went to them.... As for Fusion, a little known name, & cheap but not cheaply made, if you picl one of these things up- they got some weight. I helped a buddy install some in his bosses boat, and they were loud as hell & surprisingly clear- I am debating myself which ones to go with- |

I went with Memphis Car Audio (marine grade) and I couldn't be happier. I opted to replace the four 6.5's and added a pair of 8" to the cockpit. I went back and forth from JL's, ARC's, Polks, and Wetsounds to name a few. Actually, too many to choose from. I heard the Memphis speakers and that was it...Done! I added an amp and two subs but thats another thread. ![]() |
