The Sony radio in my 224FS is not working, it seems like its in a demo mode or something. None of the buttons are working, you can touch any of the buttons you get nothing no beep nothing, there is a CD in the player I cant even get that to eject, I hit the reset button nothing. The display will show nothing like its off and then at certain times it will cycle through and show things like cd, radio, xm, etc...not sure what to do? Anybody know anything about electronics would be greatly appreciated?

Make sure the face plate is on correctly. On a Sony, you hook in on the left side, and then push in on the right side and it will click. If that's ok, just hit the button that says source to select tuner, cd, aux.

Make sure it's not in a 'demo' mode or anything. Your manual will tell you how to verify.

What model is the stereo? And being a 2008, can you take it to the dealer to have them check it out?

Its a Sony CDX-HS70MW...Trying to figure it out without going to the marina. I have had the boat for more than a year and I believe the warranty on that is up.

Do you have a wired remote control attached to it?

Ok I have a Sony also with the same issue. I disconnected the remote and all was good this weekend. I am away for business so I can't look at it now but you might want to give that a shot.

Yes in your case it is mounted to the transom, in mine case it is mounted in the cockpit on my 248 vista. There are 2 wires to this remote, the sony Unilink and another cable that supplies the power that is basically a mini plug. Just disconnect the mini plug and test. I will not be able to get to mine for a couple of weeks at least but if this is also your issue and you make any progress please keep me updated.

i guess its a possibility. the simplest way to solve the problem is to start isolating it. This is how i found the issue with my wired remote. I would eliminate things all the way down to the HU until the problem goes away.
