The Clarion stereo I have now has the RCA inputs, and I'd like to add a factory-looking input with cup to hold the iPod.

Has anyone done this? What parts did you use?

i just connect my ipod nano, hit shuffle, and throw it in the hatch with the radio.

If you want more control you could install this little jewel....


Also, you could always just velcro the ipod to the boat for easy access or get a suction cup holder.

I like it.

I would like the iPod accessible, and we've already inadvertantly soaked our digital camera by placing it in the sink (the only 'storage' spot on the passenger side). I don't want the ipod to suffer the same fate.

It'll let you retain use of the scroll wheel while protecting it from moisture. Bear in mind you'll still want to avoid having it out in direct sunlight as heat is not your friend when it comes to the delicate electronic components.

And if you're chosing which style, seriously consider the type of cable that uses the bottom connector. That way the unit will get charged at the same time you're using it. No point in having the thing on board in a nicely protected case if it's going to go dead or have to get recharged out of it's box![/img]

i bought the clarion iPod connector. attaches the the back of the unit where'd you'd attach a 6 stacker CD unit if you wanted, and allows you to run the ipod from the Clarion remote at the helm. Works well with a few limitations. You can only have 5 playlists that will run. Easy enough to make 5 playlists ( they must be called clarion1-5). they can be any size u like. works well in the Sundowner, the ipod stays in side !!

do you know if that connector will allow you to use other mp3 players from the remote at the helm? i have a creative labs that i use an FM transmitter for but would prefer to use the adapter.

which connector are you talking about? The clarion ipod interface has the ipod connector and won't work with any other players. The ones that use a headphone jack connector (the typical stereo plug) would presumably work with any other player. The one BIG downside to using the headphone jack is the potential risk of overdriving the input of the head unit. The edge connector on a iPod sends only line-level signals. These are designed to be fed into something like a head unit. When you use the headphone jack you have to make SURE you don't use it at anything other than the lowest volume levels. BE CAREFUL.

Was wondering if the 200 already comes ready to plug and play or are there other cables that are needed to be purchased?

The Clarion AUX plug is NOT waterproof when it does not have the rubber cap on it. I would not suggest installing it in a cup holder for the reason. I installed mine just right of the stereo (ses picture) and all you need is the adapter and plug it in the RCA's not extra wiring needed.
