Post subject:  How'd you remove the stock speakers?

I have an F224, and per everyone's recommendation, I got two sets of polk speakers. So, this weekend I wanted to do the install. I assumed they were sheet metal screws and would just back out. Come to find out, they have nuts on the back, and I can barely get my hand in there to feel them, much less put a wrench on them. Did anyone else come across this problem? What did you do?

Had the same problem. Had to get a very small 1/4" drive and socket back there to hold the nut. Mine were aviation nuts, so no easy finger turning once you got them loose. Be prepared for the same.

I was able to hold the nuts with my fingers to stop them from twisting (I should probably rephrase that, but you know what I mean... ). Yes, it's a tight squeeze and a bit of a contortionist act. An electric screwdriver helps to speed up the process.

Mine were just regular screws? Very strange....

thanks. I agree ... strange. Glad to know they are 1/4, so I can take the right wrench. I hope that's easier than using my fingers to hold... oh, nevermind. lol

I'm sorry for the confusion, but I wasn't trying to tell you that 1/4" was the SIZE of the nuts that were behind the screws. I was saying that I used a 1/4" drive socket set to have room to hold the nut in place. It was impossible to get an open-end wrench into that area, so I had to go with sockets. But 1/4" DRIVE, not 1/4" in size.

Thanks for the follow up! I will probably head out there today to try and get this done. I'll let the board know the size if I can get it.

Just did mine this summer - need a friend with small hands. A big pain in the but for sure.
