I have a 298 vista that I bought in August. The original kenwood stereo was replaced by the new owner with a new one that is not compatible with the kenwood remote that is at the helm. I want to put a new remote in but Im not sure about the location, should I put it at the helm again or should I locate it elsewhere? The head unit is right around the corner in the cabin and within reach so I could always just reach around and make the change in volume, station, track etc and I never listen to the radio when I am driving only when I am docked or anchored. I see some people have it at the stern right above the swim platform, but I dont know if I would use it much there. I was thinknig about putting it on the radar arch right above the sink so no matter where I am at its at the midel of the boat and I dont have to go far. I would like to hear your ideas.

Not being a "cruiser" I don't have the same issues... Howerever, to answer the post: My head unit is next to the throttle on the helm; I have one stereo remote at the swim ladder (lot's of time in the water); I have a second to install in the bow area because the GF and I like to "relax" there  ... and it will be within reach when beached and out of the boat.

At the boat show's I've noticed many of the head units closed off either in the cabin, or other protected/less accesible area, a remote at the helm, and a remote either at the swim deck, or other usefull location.

Hope that helps!

I have a remote but it's an IR remote so you have to point it at the head unit to work. I wish I coul hook up two wired remotes then I would

Two years ago I upgraded the head unit, added an amp, 2 more speakers in the cockpit, sub in the aft, and wired remote at the helm.

I would at least get your remote back at the helm if you spend any time cruising. Easy task.

I placed on left side of helm, so captain or admiral can easily use.

We too have the IR remote and have found its worthless, thats when I went and bought the wired remote, if I remember correctly, got it off Ebay for $50ish

You may be able to run two wired remotes. Which model is it, btw?

If this is a Kenwood marine head unit or presumably any Kenwood head unit that has wired remote capabilities you can run 2 or more wired remotes using optional accessory CA-Y107MR (splitter) and then the extention cables part numbers are: CA-EX7MR (7 Meters) or CA-EX3MR (3 Meters), so you should be able to run 2 remotes if you want to and for your situation, it seems like a good idea. Now you just have to figure exact placement, order some parts and make sure you have a fishtape on hand. :D

The installation instructions show the following on the diagram:

Wired remote input
Hard-wired remote control
adaptor can be connected (sold
separately).

So, looks like your in luck. I'm trying to find the part numbers. I'll update if I can find them.

Here's the online link to your headunit at the pioneer website.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/CD-Players/DEH-P490IB?tab=D

Click on the accessories tab of that page.....   and you mentioned it previously......I'm a quick one.

NAUTICA® Marine Accessories:

■CD-MR80D: Wired Marine Remote Control with Display
■CD-MR70: Wired Marine Remote Control
■AD-MR92: Nautica Series Waterproof Marine Stereo Cover

Ok, I reread your original question, sorry if I got off track here. I guess you were just looking for help finding a location.
