Getting ready to replace my speakers with the polk 651's talked about alot here. Is there any trick to removing the cover on the speaker in the cockpit? It's right above where you stick the cooler.

It looks like I can just give it a tug and it will come off, but I don't want to break anything. Boat is a 2000 248 Vista.

Thanks

Not sure what year your 248V is but if its anything like mine you will need to remove two screws. Once behined the speaker fabric and the other is on a small bracket on the other end on the bottom. Once those 2 screws are removed you can lift it up and then out.

Thanks for the advice. I will look for the screws.

I am adding the Polk Audio 651's. Do a search here and you will find lots of satisfied customers.

I have an amp powering the 4 cockpit speakers. Had to add a sub to get it to sound good.

Adding 2 more speakers to the helm is the big improvement!

Here is where I installed mine.

along with wired remote at the helm!

Do a search on this, a few of us here on the board posted how to's for a 248, a year or two ago, with photos. But will gladly share anything I can remember.

I'm looking at adding two speakers to my 268 helm area right now...just ordered 2 more Polk db651s.

I'm either thinking next to, or just above the fire extinguisher...

and not positive, but I could also add one here in between the storage locker and the cabin door....not sure I'd like the looks of it here, plus it would be VERY close to the other speaker...

I looked for those srews for a while a couple of weeks ago... When looking at the panel, there is one completely on the right in the bottom half of the upholstery behind the cabin door when open. Then there is one (that was invissible on my boat) approximatel where the cooler would end. It is between the two types of vinyl and hard to see...
