Guys,

I have included a picture of our boat's helm. By viewing this pic, I was wondering if someone would be able to identify what the model number of this wired stereo remote would be? I can make out that Sony has their name on it, but I would like to order a new wired remote to replace this existing one that does not function as it should.

Do you guys know if this same wired remote is still available to be purchased today? I see there are some new "round" wired remotes, but I'm not sure if it would fit in the existing location that my current "oval" looking remote is. Ideally, I wouldn't need to open up or modify my helm panel for a new remote and it would be compatible with the Sony Head Unit.

Still about three weeks until we pull the shrink wrap back off, and just trying to get the new stereo components ready.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Sony CDX-GT700HD Head Unit to replace my existing Sony Head Unit with. Apparently there are about 27 radio stations in the Michigan area that broadcast in HD. With this unit only costing $139.00 with front panel USB, ipod connectivity and built in HD tuner I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks,
Mike.

I cant recall the name, but I can check when I get home. I am fairly certain it is still available though. I had one on my 2008 H200

Thanks,

After the model number is determined then I can contact Sony to make sure it is compatible with the new head unit.

Mike

Its actually available as an aftermarket item. The h200 has a Sony head unit but my controller does not say Sony. It is white, but is identical.

Access Technologies Mrc 2 is the model.

Same one I had on my 2000 268 Vista. Be careful that your head unit has the correct plug for the wired remote. The Sony I bought did not, and many models that Sony makes today, do not have the same hook up.

Thanks Guys,

I'll try to make some time later today to call Sony and inquire if the
Access Technologies Mrc 2 remote is compatible with the above noted Sony head unit.

I'll post back what I find out so someone else may use the information when updating their stereo.

Mike.

The MRC2 must be used only with SONY® RM-X2S & RM-X4S capable head units.
The CDXGT700HD Does have an outpit for a wired remote, just not sure of compatibility with the MRC2.

Thanks Cap'n,

Based on your information, I pulled down the specs off Sony's web site for the CDXGT700HD unit. Unless I missed it, I couldn't find were Sony stated what this unit was compatable with for wired remotes, so I emailed their product support for an answer.

Mike.

Some retail sites say it has "Optional Wired Remote Input Terminal". The Sony site and manual do not provide the info you need to know.

If it means anything???? I had one of those remotes at my helm too. I hated it because it had no display!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I changed it over to the RM X60M/L, (which is the same as the X55) it comes with the needed cable 25' long, but you may need a splitter depending on the setup. The display type uses 2 cables, were the non-display uses one & a POS feed wire. So you need to install the heaver cable back to the head and and the lighter cable will be unplug from the old unit and reused for the new display. With the new display type the POS wire is not used.

the proper Sony radio/cd is the SONY RM-X2S and X4S is it right????

because I have the remote control MRC2 but not the sony radio that has been changed into a Kenwood one that of course doesn't work with the MRC2.

So could you confirm: are X2S and X4S the right stereo to work with MRC2 remote??????

thanx

The X2S and X4S not the stereo head units. They are autotomotive remotes that are either attached to the steering wheel of the car, or the turn signal stalk.

The correct stereo/head unit input connection on the back of the unit, must be compatible with the same connection type that the X2S and X4S use. Which is the same connection type that the MRC2 uses.

I spoke to Sony Technical Support early this afternoon. After being put on hold a couple of times to try an answer the above questions they then asked if they could call me back later this afternoon as they needed more time to try and determine compatibility.

I hope to hear back from them today before I leave, but time will tell. I would of thought, they would of been able to answer this question a little quicker?

Mike.

Update:

Sony (Michelle) did call back, they can't find information on which wired remotes would be compatible with the Sony CDX-GT700HD head unit.

Michelle advised that most of Sony's new head units would be compatable with the RMX11 wired remote. A quick google search shows the RMX11 is less than half the price of other wired remotes.

Michelle is going to dig further and call back on Monday to try and get me answer on a compatible wire remote for the CDX-GT700HD.

I'm thinking the vast majority of Sony non marine head units are likely not being used with wired remotes as they are going into vehicles so this question of wired remotes may not come up a lot?

Some things just take time I guess....... :)

Mike.
