Post subject: | Radio Troubleshooting/Replacement |
I'm trying to figure out why the radio may not be working on my '98 Horizon RX that I purchased over the winter. The dealer told me up front it wasn't working when I bought it, so it wasn't a shock when going over everything. The problem is that the radio turns on, but nothing from the speakers. Everything seems to be connected from the rear of the radio and speakers. Could the problem lie in the radio itself? Would I probably be ok with a new unit? The unit itself is original equipment, so I'll probably put in something with IPod support, but installing a bimini top has higher priority. Suggestions/Radio Recommendations??? |

Is there a separate amplifier between the radio and the speakers? If not, and all speakers are dead, I'd look to the radio first but it could be something as simple as a corroded connection. I'd start by disconnecting the speaker wires at all points (radio, at the speakers, etc.) and making sure the connectors are all nice and clean. I even like to put a dab of dielectric grease on any electrical connectors in a boat, just for a bit of extra protection. If your connections are good and there aren't any other devices in the system (amps, remote controls, etc.), then probably the radio. |

Original radio was bad, new radio did the trick. However, the original speakers are also shot. Off to Best Buy ![]() |
