Here's a puzzler: A couple years ago I added a Clarion 480M amp, a set of speakers and a bridged subwoofer to the stock stereo in my 200H. I have a switch on the amplifier remote turn on wire, so I can otpionally run the stereo without the amp, third set of speakers and sub. Lately I have been having an intermittent problem where the sound through the amp to third set of speakers and sub will sound garbled like a distant radio station fading out of range. This can happen when engine is running or not. I assume it's not the head unit, as I can hit the switch off and have clear sound through the stock speakers. I have yet to seriously troubleshoot the issue, but I'm thinking either the switch is going bad, or a bad connection to the amp, or the amp itself. I suppose it could also be an issue with the head units line level outputs as well. Any thoughts?

Double check your ground connections. Also, it's helpful if your head unit ground and amp ground are connected to the same ground.

Yup, turned out to be a ground wire crimp connector that had loosened up. Replaced it, tightened everything up and the problem went away. Couldn't resist messing with gain controls while I was in there. Probably not a good idea.
