Hey all.. Im looking to replace my stock radio in my 1990 Horizon. I dont want anything crazy, I have 4 speakers that I bought last year already hooked up. I basically just want a CD player and an iPod hookup. Any suggestions on a decently priced, reliable stereo setup? I have installed several car stereos in the past.. Is it similar to install?

I would look in Sony. I had a few though the years with no problems.

Sony's USB port will handel the ipod very will even with Sony's remotes. Some models the ipod goes right into the unit!! These model have no CD player, but I find I don't need it any more. Between the small USB drives and ipods, why bother. They hold far more music than a CD and smaller.

The reason I went with kenwood over sony was it has front USB and front aux in with full I-control. No sony's have front USB unless you get the CD-less model and then it has to go inside and it costs twice as much. The kenwood wired remotes are also $35, tiny, and backlit. You can have up to 5 of them. It was an easy choice

I'm not biased towards either, I own both a 2011 model Sony HD radio in my car and a 2012 model Kenwood Marine. Both are awesome radios. Get one that has the features you want.

Sony I have: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 1666079653 and thats list price. Yes. no CD player, but still a good price. You can get it for about $125.00

Sony makes 2 marine remotes, one with a display (about $100), one with out the display (about $35) Both backlit.

That's what I have in my car. My only complaint is that it never "locks" onto HD stations it always tunes to the analog first then after about 2 seconds gets the HD signal. So if you're browsing presets you can't preset a HD station it only saves the analog. It can be fun jamming out to gospel music for 2 seconds until the HD signal locks on, then you have to hit the preset button again to switch HD channels to what you originally wanted.

Thanks for the feedback.. I dont necessarily care if it has a CD player or not. Mainly the iPod hookup. Either with AUX or directly wired in already. The remote deal would be cool, but I dont think I need it. The stereo is in a spot that is already very accessible and easy to use.

My $0.02....
As I did, make sure your remotes can run the iPod functions. I have the "factory" Clarion unit in mine, and the iPod controller was only about $50. Both remotes can control the iPod, and display the song title, etc. But then again, my stereo is in a PITA spot.
