Every year for 9 years, I have made a trip across much of South Florida on Veteran's day weekend with a few other boats. We trailer 1 hour to Belle Glade, FL where we launch at "Slim's Fish Camp" (SE corner of Lake Okeechobee). From Belle Glade, we cruise around the south rim canal of Okeechobee until it joins the Caloosahatchee River at Moore Haven. From there the River meets the Gulf of Mexico beyond Ft Myers (and the islands of Sannibel and Captiva).

Our Trip is 165 miles round trip, and we stay at the Best Western Waterfront in Ft Myers before returning to Belle Glade. This year was only 2 days, but sometimes we stay longer and cruise out to North Captiva Island

Leaving the Best Western the next morning for the trip home.

This was the first year in the "new" boat. Everything went perfectly, and we enjoyed the comfort of the Horizon 240

Very nice trip; I have a 240 also, would love to take a long trip somewhere nearer to NC but no locks on the Catawba river so around 40 miles between dams is about as far as one could go.

That's funny. It's not me...too long of a commute!

We go through 3 locks each direction. They are large: 50' wide x 250' long. Height changes range from 2' to 8' each. Total height change from Lake Okeechobee to Gulf of Mexico is normally 15-17' The Lock in the picture is a smaller lock that goes off into Clewiston. It is only about 30' x 60'.

That sounds like a great trip I wish I could find some boaters in Miami that do similar activities. Great pictures and I love Ginger, I am taking my boat out in the morning so I will try to post some pictures also.

Hey Jafo4U, keep that Miami weather sunny and warm for me will ya? I'm spending a couple days in Miami to relax on Dec. 27/28 before doing a 5 night Western Caribbean Cruise leaving out of Miami.

Mike.

Thanks Blue. I was able to take the boat out twice this long Christmas weekend. Saturday evening in "cold" weather (50's), and Monday in warm weather (70's and mostly sunny).
