Hey guys, Ok I have the power steering pump off , everyone is telling me i can get a gm pump from auto part store, problem is the new pumps for 5.7l gm vehicles have the return line wrapping back up on the side where our boats come straight off the back of the reservoir . Then this smart ass Napa guy started laughing at me like a Dick head. said the shaft wont match up he gave me all sorts of issues. I explained that the Guys in the Forum (thus being all of us) dont really know what we are talking about. I walked out on him. next question can i remove the reservoir and install it on a new pump with out the reservoir? if so do I need any gasket sealer or anything like that? Thanks guys .. Napa pisses me off. F#%$dickheads..

You just buy the pump, you don't need the whole kit with a tank.

But since you got one with a tank, yes pull off the car one and install the one from your boat so the line sticks out correctly. Make sure to find a gasket sealant that's power steering fluid safe.

If you buy a pump without the reservoir, it will come with all the O-rings. No sealant required.

My next question is " How in the world do you remove the reservoir from the old pump . I remove the two bolts from the back, its doesn't just pop right off , atleast not very easy

Ok , heres the "Update" Well after about 6 hours and who knows how many beers later, I finally got the new power steering pump replaced, the new pump had the exact part number stamped on the original Volvo penta power steering pump. Installed the original reservoir on the new pump, put it back on the motor, Bleed the line, looked and guess what... More red fluid on the bottom .. again... "Ahhhhhhhhhhh" When I tested the system I found another leak on the low pressure side line was rubbing against the exhaust exiting the boat. " it hooks into the ram and hooks on the tank at the back of the motor, its only around 18 Inches long with a 90 degree fitting on one end and just pushes on the tank with a zip tie. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Oh well I will chalk this one up to Boat Ownership.. I guess the good thing is i only had $45 bucks in the new pump. Gonna have to wait and see if I can get a new line tomorrow or early next week. Thanks guys for all your help.. :D

Ya thats what I was doing , just teaching myself about the "ENTIRE" steering system of the boat. lol  Im Just glad i didnt go and spend the $330 for the pump from the dealer. The $40 I spend on the pump from the auto store is staying in the damn boat.
